ARTHRITIS OF THE HIP
Arthritis of the hip occurs as the cartilage which acts as a cushion between the bones in your hip joint breaks down. This leads to pain and stiffness in the hip and groin area.
The diagnosis is based on physical exam and x-ray findings.
Depending on the exact nature and severity of your disease, treatment may include physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications or surgery. Surgery usually consists of a total hip replacement where the ball and socket of the hip joint are replaced with metal and plastic implants.
