TRIGGER FINGER
The finger flexor tendons function to bend the finger. Normally they pass easily through a series of tunnels or “pulleys”. Sometimes the tendon and pulleys get thickened and they rub against each other every time you bend your finger. This leads to pain, stiffness and catching.
The diagnosis is based on physical exam findings.
The initial treatment usually consists of a steroid injection. In some cases one injection may lead to complete resolution of symptoms. In some cases, multiple injections may be needed. If the steroid injections no longer provide relief, then surgery may be needed to release the pulley.
